Tagging accounts with @mentions helps boost visibility, credit partners, and spark conversations. Kontentino makes it easy to add mentions across supported social networks - while respecting each platform’s technical limitations.
This guide walks you through how mentions work, how to add them, and what to watch out for on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (Twitter).
Supported Platforms
Kontentino supports tagging and mentions based on what each social network allows via its API.
Platform | @Mentions | Collaborators | Location Tags |
✅ Pages | ❌ | ❌ | |
✅ Users & Companies | ✅ Up to 3 | ✅ | |
✅ Users & Companies | ❌ | ❌ | |
X (Twitter) | ✅ Users & Companies | ❌ | ❌ |
💡 Good to know: Tagging options vary by platform and are defined by each network - not by Kontentino. We support the maximum available functionality for each one.
How to Add @Mentions to Your Posts
You can add mentions directly in the post caption while creating or editing a post.
Step-by-step
Open the post composer
Go to your calendar or posts view and create a new post (or edit an existing one).Type
@in the caption
Place the cursor where you want the mention and type the@symbol.Start typing the account name
Type at least 3 characters of the account name
A suggestions list will appear for Facebook and LinkedIn
Select the correct account
Use your mouse or arrow keys
Press Enter to confirm
Continue writing your post
The mention will appear as a clickable link once published.
💡 Tip: For Instagram and X (Twitter), the suggestions dropdown doesn’t appear. You must type the exact username manually (see Instagram & X notes below).
Using Direct Mentions for Facebook Pages
If a Facebook Page doesn’t appear in suggestions, you can add it using the Direct mention feature.
How it works
Click the @ icon in the editor toolbar
Enter one of the following:
Page name (e.g.
nutella)Page username (e.g.
@nutella)Full Facebook URL (e.g.
facebook.com/nutella)
Click Add
Kontentino will insert the correct Page mention into your post.
💡 Tip: Use this option when you know the exact Page but can’t find it via search.
Platform-Specific Notes
Facebook Mentions
You can tag Pages only (not personal profiles)
Mentions appear as clickable links
Verified Pages show a blue checkmark in suggestions
⚠️ Heads up: Pages can disable being mentioned. If a Page doesn’t appear, this setting may be turned off on their side.
LinkedIn Mentions
You can tag company pages and individual members
Mentions are clickable and notify the tagged account
❗️API limitations by LinkedIn: Only company profiles can tag personal profiles in third-party apps (like Kontentino); The person being tagged must be following the company page that is tagging the person.
💡 Tip #1: Make sure your LinkedIn profile is properly connected and authorized to show the right suggestions.
💡 Tip #2: Use the URL slug of the LinkedIn account for a more accurate search.
X (Twitter) Mentions
You can tag X user and company accounts
Mentions count toward the character limit
Type
@followed by the full, exact usernameNo dropdown appears while typing
💡 How to verify:
Click the mention in the post preview. If it opens the correct X profile, the mention is valid.
Instagram Mentions
You can tag users and companies
Type
@followed by the full, exact usernameNo dropdown appears while typing
💡 How to verify:
Click the mention in the post preview. If it opens the correct Instagram profile, the mention is valid.
Instagram Collaborators
Instagram Collaborators are different from caption mentions. They allow multiple accounts to co-author a post.
How to add collaborators
Create a post for an Instagram profile
Find the Collaborators field in the Edit mode
Type a username (with or without
@)Press Enter to add
Add up to 3 collaborators
How collaborators work
Collaborators receive an invitation after publishing
Once accepted, the post appears on all profiles
Engagement (likes, comments) is shared
All collaborators appear at the top of the post
⚠️ Important: The collaborator must accept the invitation for their name to appear publicly.
Instagram Location Tags
Adding a location helps increase discoverability via location-based search.
How to add a location
Open an Instagram post / create a new one
In the Edit mode, find the Location field
Type at least 3 characters
Select the correct location from the list
💡 Tip: Location search uses Facebook’s Places database. If a location doesn’t appear, try a nearby landmark or the business’s Facebook Page name.
Troubleshooting
Account not appearing in suggestions
Why it happens:
Mentions are disabled on the account
Fewer than 3 characters typed
Temporary connection issue
What to do:
Type at least 3 characters
Try the exact account name
Use direct Facebook Page mention
Reauthorize the social network in Settings → Authorization
Mention not clickable after publishing
Why it happens:
The account no longer exists
API restrictions prevented tagging
What to do:
Remove and re-add the mention
Verify the account is still active
For Facebook, use the direct URL method
LinkedIn mentions of personal profiles not working
What to do:
Make sure you're creating a post for a company page, not a personal profile (as this is a limitation of the LinkedIn platform)
Make sure the person you're trying to tag is following that company page
Try again using the URL slug of the LinkedIn account
If the above requirements are met and the tagging still doesn't work, reauthorize your LinkedIn connection:
Go to Settings → Authorization
Reconnect your LinkedIn profile
Best Practices
Do ✅
Mention only relevant accounts
Credit partners, brands, or sources
Use Instagram Collaborators for partnerships
Preview posts before scheduling
Avoid ❌
Over-tagging
Mentioning unrelated accounts
Using mentions purely for attention
💡 Pro tips
Combine Instagram location tags with hashtags for maximum discoverability
Keep a list of frequently tagged partners
Use Collaborators instead of caption mentions for co-created content
