How to Check Pinterest Account Permissions for Connecting to a Kontentino

Written by Ana Tyshchenko

To successfully connect your Pinterest account to Kontentino (note that Kontentino connects to Pinterest Boards, not entire profiles), ensure that:

βœ” Your Pinterest account is set up as a Business Account.

βœ” You have the Manager role on the Pinterest Business Account.

βœ” You have at least one public board created.

What is the Difference Between a Pin and a Board?

A Pin is an individual post on Pinterest, while a Board is a collection that organizes Pins. When connecting Pinterest to Kontentino, you select Boards, not individual Pins or entire profiles.

πŸ”Ή Step 1: Check if Your Pinterest Account Is a Business Account

  1. Go to Pinterest.com and log in.

  2. Click your profile picture in the top-left corner or tree dots (...) in the top-right corner.

  3. Go to Settings β†’ Account Management.

  4. Look under Account information:

❌ If you see an option to "Convert to a Business Account", it means your account is still Personal - switch to Business to proceed.

βœ… If you don’t see this option, your account is already Business.

βœ” Solution: If your account is Personal, switch to Business for full API access.

πŸ”Ή Step 2: Check Your Role on the Pinterest Business Account

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Permissions (or Business Access).

  2. Check your role under Team Members.

  3. Make sure you have the Manager role (this role allows you to connect Pinterest to third-party apps).

βœ” If you don’t have the Manager role, ask the account owner to update your access.

πŸ”Ή Step 3: Ensure You Have a Public Board

  1. Go to your Pinterest profile.

  2. Under Boards, check if you have at least one public board (it should not be secret).

  3. If needed, create a new board and set it to Public. Kontentino connects to individual Boards, so ensure the Board you create or check is public and visible for selection during the connection process.

βœ” Solution: Pinterest requires at least one public board for a successful connection.

πŸ”Ή Step 4: Try Connecting Again

  1. Enable pop-ups in your browser (Pinterest authorization may require them).

  2. Clear cache & cookies to prevent login issues.

  3. Log out and log back in to Pinterest.

  4. Try connecting Pinterest again in Kontentino:

    • Log in to your Kontentino account.

    • Navigate to the profile selector, click + Profile, and select Pinterest.

    • Follow the on-screen instructions to authenticate your Pinterest account.

    • Grant all requested permissions during the process.

    • Select the Pinterest Board(s) you want to connect to Kontentino.
