You can tag pages, companies and accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and X straight from the post editor. There are two ways to do it.
Search as you type. Type @ followed by at least three characters, then pick from the list.
Direct mention. Click the @ button in the editor toolbar (Direct mention), then paste a link, a handle or a name.
Network | Search as you type | Direct mention |
Pages | Page link or username
Companies, and people who follow your page | Company link or name
Not available | Handle | |
X (Twitter) | Any account | Handle |
When a mention is added, it is highlighted in the text. What gets published depends on the network: Facebook and LinkedIn link the mention to the page, while Instagram and X publish it as @handle and link it themselves.
Powertip: Before posting, check the handle in the Preview and click it. Does it take you to the correct profile?
Type @ and part of the Page's name, then pick the Page you mean. Several Pages can share a name; where Facebook gives us a location, we show it under the name to help you tell them apart.
You can only tag Pages. Facebook does not allow tools to tag personal profiles, so if you paste a personal profile link into Direct mention, the editor tells you so. Direct mention needs the Page's link or username (for example facebook.com/nutella); to find a Page by its name, search as you type instead.
Companies: Type @ and part of the company's name. In Direct mention you can paste the company's LinkedIn page link or type its name; if several companies match the name, you pick the right one from a short list.
To tag a company, you can also use Direct mention feature and paste the full URL link from LinkedIn:
People: Type @ and part of the person's name. LinkedIn only lets you tag a person when:
you are posting as a company page, not a personal profile, and
the person follows that page.
A link to a person's profile will not work in Direct mention, because LinkedIn does not let tools look people up by their profile address.
Search tips for LinkedIn
LinkedIn matches whole words, not the first few letters. If a half-typed word shows nothing, finish the word: "coca col" finds nothing, but "coca cola" does.
LinkedIn's people search only accepts plain letters. Leave out accented letters and numbers, and search by the first name or an unaccented part of the name.
Instagram has no suggestion list: Instagram does not offer any way for tools to search accounts by name. Instead, open Direct mention and type or paste the account's handle, for example natgeo.
If we can confirm the account, it is added straight away.
If we can't, you'll see: "We couldn't confirm this account. The post will still publish; Instagram will link the mention if the account exists." This is normal for personal accounts, which Instagram does not let us look up. Check the spelling of the handle, then add it anyway.
If what you typed can't be an Instagram handle at all (for example, it is too long or has spaces), you'll see "No page matches that name or link."
X (Twitter)
Type @ and part of the account's name or handle, then pick from the list. X does not separate people from companies, so one search covers every account. You can also open Direct mention and paste a handle, for example kontentino.
The mention is published as @handle, and X links it when the post goes out.
If nothing appears
The editor tells you why a search came back empty, and what to do about it.
What you see | What it means | What to do |
No results for "..." | The network has nothing under that name | Try fewer or complete words, or use Direct mention with the page link |
Your [network] connection has expired | The profile's connection to Kontentino needs renewing | Reconnect the profile under Settings â Authorization (use Go to Authorization) |
[Page] is missing a permission [network] needs for search | A permission was not granted when the page was connected | Reconnect the page and accept every requested permission |
Nobody on this account has a working [network] connection for [page] | No one in your workspace has this page connected | Someone with access to the page needs to connect it |
You can't tag people when posting as a personal profile | LinkedIn only allows tagging people from a company page | Post as a company page |
[Network] is limiting searches right now | The network is temporarily rate limiting | Wait a moment and try again |
We couldn't search [network] just now | A temporary problem on the network's side | Try again in a moment |
Tagging on [network] isn't available right now | A problem on our side | Contact support; reconnecting won't help |
Tagging places on Instagram
Instagram posts can carry a location. Type at least three characters in the location field and pick a place. Instagram can only tag places that Facebook has on its map, so if nothing matches, try a nearby landmark or the business's Facebook Page name.
Instagram occasionally refuses a place when the post is published, even one it offered. If that happens, pick a different nearby place and publish again.
Hashtags
Kontentino does not suggest hashtags as you type, because the networks do not offer a way to search them. Use Hashtag presets to save the sets you use often and insert them in one click.
