Are your Facebook and Instagram profiles frequently disconnecting?
You are likely using our standard connection method, which is based directly on Facebook page roles. While this works for light users managing a single page, these standard tokens are not meant for secure, high-volume use and can expire easily.
If you change your Facebook password, or if Meta makes updates to their API that affect token validity, this standard connection can quietly break — sometimes without you noticing until a scheduled post fails to publish.
To ensure a stable, long-term connection for your profiles, we highly recommend switching to Safe Connect.
How Safe Connect works
Safe Connect authenticates through your Meta Business Portfolio rather than a personal Facebook profile. Because access is managed at the portfolio level, the connection doesn't depend on any single person's individual Facebook login — so it isn't affected by that person's password changes, session expiry, or personal permission changes the way the standard, profile-based connection is.
Switching to Safe Connect does not affect your existing scheduled or published content. Kontentino only checks the connection at the moment a post is published, so migrating between connection methods is non-destructive.
Phase 1: Preparation in Meta Business Suite
Important: Before you click anything in Kontentino, complete this setup outside of our platform, directly inside Meta Business Suite.
Step 1: Create a Business Portfolio
Safe Connect requires your pages to be housed inside a Meta Business Portfolio.
Log into Meta Business Suite.
Navigate to the Business Portfolios section.
Click to create a new Business Portfolio. You will need to provide a portfolio name, your first and last name, and your business email.

Step 2: Assign pages to your portfolio
Open your newly created Business Portfolio.
Navigate to Pages and assign the specific pages you want to manage in Kontentino.
Managing a client's page? You don't have to own the page to use Safe Connect. Inside your Business Portfolio, choose "Request to share access to a Facebook Page." This brings a client's page into your agency's portfolio without taking ownership of it. Regardless of who owns the page, the only requirement for Safe Connect is that the page sits inside a Business Portfolio.
Instagram: Safe Connect only supports Instagram professional accounts that are linked to a Facebook Page. A standalone Instagram account not linked to a Page will not appear, even if it's in the Business Portfolio.

Phase 2: Linking via Safe Connect in Kontentino
Once your Meta Business Portfolio is set up and your pages are inside it, you're ready to connect to Kontentino.
Step 1: Go to your Connections page
Click your profile icon in the bottom-left corner > Connections.
Step 2: Connect, refresh, or upgrade a profile
The connected profile shows one of the following, on the right:
Refresh — reconnects the profile using its current method. Use this for a routine reconnect (e.g., an expiring token).
Refresh AND Safe Connect (as an actionable button) — this profile is not yet using Safe Connect. Clicking it opens the setup flow, where you select a Meta Business Portfolio and choose which of its pages to connect (one portfolio at a time).
A grey "Safe Connect" label (not a button) next to a profile's name means that profile is already connected via Safe Connect — no action needed unless you want to refresh it.
Step 3: Click connect via Business portfolio
Step 4: Select a portfolio and choose the profiles you want to connect
Recommendation: Where available, use Safe Connect for both your Facebook Page and Instagram account — it provides a stable connection with no token expiry. Safe Connect is only available for profiles assigned to a Meta Business Portfolio; if a page or Instagram account isn't in a Business Portfolio yet, only the standard connection will be offered until it's added to one.
⚠️ Troubleshooting: Why aren't my pages showing up?
If a page doesn't appear when selecting a Business Portfolio in Safe Connect, check the following:
Your access level in the Business Portfolio. You don't need Full (Admin) access — Basic/Partial access in Meta Business Manager is enough, as long as the assets are assigned to you.
You need this access to both the Facebook Page and its associated Instagram account, and both must be added to your business assets within the portfolio — not just one of the two.
Instagram must be linked to a Facebook Page. Standalone Instagram professional accounts not linked to a Page won't appear.
The page must be inside a Business Portfolio at all — either owned by it or shared into it via "Request to share access to a Facebook Page."
A Facebook Page and its Instagram account can only belong to one Business Portfolio at a time. If two different users each have the same asset assigned to them under a different Business Portfolio, neither will be able to connect it via Safe Connect in Kontentino.
The connection process relies on the Business Portfolio access assigned to the person currently clicking Safe Connect — that person needs to personally have both the Facebook Page and its Instagram account added to their business assets within the portfolio. If these assets aren't assigned to you personally, the pages simply won't show up when you try to connect them. If you run into this issue, double-check your personal Meta permissions, or ask a team member who has the assets assigned to them to perform the Safe Connect process instead.
