New here? For what Safe Connect is and how to connect inside Kontentino, start with our guide on How to Connect Your Meta Profiles Using Safe Connect. The following guide will cover only the Meta-side setup.
The one rule that governs everything
Safe Connect can only connect a page that is an owned or assigned asset of a Business Portfolio you are inside. Simply having access to a page that lives in someone else's portfolio is not enough β it won't appear when you try to connect. Every step below exists to get your page into that state.
πΌ Step 1: Make sure a Business Portfolio exists
Safe Connect requires your pages to live inside a Meta Business Portfolio. If you don't have one yet:
Log into Meta Business Suite.
Go to the Business Portfolios section.
Click on Create a new Business Portfolio (you'll provide a portfolio name, your first and last name, and your business email).
A portfolio can be created by the client/owner (who then grants you access) or by your agency (into which you add clients and brands).
π€Ή Step 2: Which situation applies to you?
Your next step depends on where the page lives today.
The client/owner already has the page in a Business Portfolio. Get the page into a portfolio you're inside β either the client invites you into their portfolio with full access (Method A), or you bring the page into your own portfolio (Method B).
The client has only a Facebook Page (and/or Instagram), no portfolio, and isn't technical. Don't send them into Business Manager. Have them grant you page admin on Facebook, then bring the page into your own portfolio (Method B).
No portfolio exists yet. Create one (Step 1), then follow the first case.
πβ‘οΈ β Step 3: Getting the page in and assigning to you
Use one of the two methods below. Both work because they put the page inside a portfolio you're in, as an owned or assigned business asset.
Method A β Invite the person into the portfolio with Full access
Best for freelancers or in-house individuals.
Enter the person's email (it must be tied to a Facebook account) and choose Full access.
Assign the specific Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts.
Send the invite; the person accepts by email (invitation expires in 30 days).
Note: this type of access is tied to a specific user/person. If the person leaves, the page owner will need to re-invite a new user.
βΉοΈ If the "I have access, but the page won't show" error shows up β use Business assets β search the Page β Assign people:
Method B β Bring the page into your own portfolio
Best for agencies/teams managing social profiles of non-technical clients/page owners, and the basis for adding a new social profile to an existing portfolio.
The client/page owner first needs to grant you the Admin role (Full access) on the page directly on Facebook: switch to the desired business page profile β> Settings β> Page setup β> Page access β> Add new user.
Once access is granted, in your business portfolio settings, go to Pages β Add β Add an existing Facebook page (it's best you insert the URL of the specific page to find it) and select the page:
To assign access also to your team, go to Business assets β click on Assign people.
(You must be an admin of the page, or Meta blocks it with: "Unable to add Facebook page. You must already be admin of the page." Once added, the page is an owned asset of your portfolio and will appear in Safe Connect.)
β What does not work
Two routes which might feel like the natural move but do not work for Safe Connect, because they only grant access to a page that stays in someone else's portfolio:
Add a Partner (linking portfolios) β Users β Partners β Add partner.
Request access to a page in another portfolio β Pages β Request access.
In both cases, the page never becomes an asset of a portfolio you're in, so it won't surface in Safe Connect. Always bring the page in with Method A or Method B instead.
π§ A few rules to remember
Instagram must be linked to a Facebook Page for the Instagram account to be assignable and to appear for connection. A standalone Instagram account won't show.
Both assets must be assigned to you β the Facebook Page and its Instagram account β within the portfolio you're connecting from.
A page in more than one portfolio still connects once it's properly assigned to you; multi-portfolio placement on its own is not the blocker.
You don't need Full (Admin) access to the portfolio to connect β Basic/Partial access is enough, as long as the assets are assigned to you.
β Once you're set up
When the page (and its Instagram) is an assigned asset of a portfolio you're in, head to Kontentino to finish connecting β see How to Connect Your Meta Profiles Using Safe Connect for the in-app steps.
