New here? For what Safe Connect is and how to connect inside Kontentino, start with our guide on How to Connect Your Meta Profiles Using Safe Connect. The following guide will cover only the Meta-side setup.
The one rule that governs everything
Safe Connect can only connect a page that is an owned or assigned asset of a Business Portfolio you are inside. Simply having access to a page that lives in someone else's portfolio is not enough β it won't appear when you try to connect. Every step below exists to get your page into that state.
πΌ Step 1: Check your access to the Business Portfolio the page lives in
Every Facebook Page already sits inside a Meta Business Portfolio β one is created automatically with the page. So the goal here isn't to create a portfolio; it's to confirm you have access to the portfolio the page lives under, with the page among your assigned business assets.
How to check:
Log into Meta Business Suite,
Open the account switcher (top-left corner) β select a business portfolio β check under business assets if the assets (Facebook page, Instagram account) you want to connect are listed in the portfolio,
If the page's portfolio is listed and the page (and its Instagram) sits under your connected business assets β you're set, and you can head to Kontentino and connect it via Safe Connect.
If it's not there β you don't have access to that portfolio yet, and the page owner needs to grant it (see Step 2).
Optional β Create your own dedicated portfolio
If you'd prefer to manage the pages you work with under your own portfolio, you can create one and bring the pages into it:
In Meta Business Suite, go to the Business Portfolios section,
Click Create a new Business Portfolio (portfolio name, your first and last name, business email).
π€Ή Step 2: Get access to the respective Business Portfolio
If Step 1 showed you don't yet have access, this is where you fix that. Usually the page sits in the client's or owner's portfolio, so you need access to that portfolio β with the page assigned to you as a business asset. You have two options.
Option A β The client/owner grants you access (Full access)
Once the access to the Business portfolio and its assets is assigned to you, you have everything you need to run Safe Connect.
β
What steps need to be taken by the portfolio owner:
Enter the person's email (it must be tied to a Facebook account) and choose Full access,
Assign the specific Facebook Pages and Instagram accounts,
Send the invite; the person accepts by email (invitation expires in 30 days).
Note: this type of access is tied to a specific user/person. If the person leaves and no other people were assigned Full access, the page owner will need to re-invite a new user.
βΉοΈ If the "I have access, but the page won't show" error shows up β use Business assets β search the Page β Assign people:
Option B β Add the page into your own portfolio
This one's optional β you don't need it for Safe Connect. Once the owner gives you Full access through their portfolio (Option A), you can already connect the page and set up your team, so bringing it into your own portfolio won't get you a "better" connection. It's a workflow choice, not a technical one.
Where it earns its place is when you're running a lot of clients at scale and thinking long-term:
Your access no longer hinges on one person. With Option A, access is tied to the specific user who was invited β if they leave the agency, the owner has to go back and re-invite someone. Keep the page in your own portfolio, and you manage who has access from your side; no client involvement needed.
You're not dependent on the client's setup. If their portfolio gets restricted or someone removes your access, an access-only arrangement falls apart. Your own portfolio is yours to control.
Everything lives in one place. One portfolio, consistent roles across clients, and a single spot to manage it all instead of hopping between dozens of client accounts.
Before you start: being a Page admin on Facebook isn't enough on its own. Once a page already sits inside a Business Portfolio, access is handled at the Meta Business Suite level β so the owner still needs to grant you Full access to the page through their portfolio (Option A) first. From there, add the page using the same steps as below.
How to add an existing page into your Business Portfolio
In your Business Portfolio settings, go to Pages β Add β Add an existing Facebook page (it's best to paste the URL of the specific page to find it) and select the page:
To assign access to your team, go to Business assets β Assign people.
Once added, the page is an owned asset of your portfolio and will appear in Safe Connect.
β What does not work
Two routes which might feel like the natural move but do not work for Safe Connect, because they only grant access to a page that stays in someone else's portfolio:
Add a Partner (linking portfolios) β Users β Partners β Add partner.
Request access to a page in another portfolio β Pages β Request access.
In both cases, the page never becomes an asset of a portfolio you're in, so it won't surface in Safe Connect. Always bring the page in with Option A or Option B instead.
π§ A few rules to remember
Instagram must be linked to a Facebook Page for the Instagram account to be assignable and to appear for connection. A standalone Instagram account won't show.
Both assets must be assigned to you β the Facebook Page and its Instagram account β within the portfolio you're connecting from.
A page in more than one portfolio still connects once it's properly assigned to you; multi-portfolio placement on its own is not the blocker.
β Once you're set up
When the page (and its Instagram) is an assigned asset of a portfolio you're in, head to Kontentino to finish connecting β see How to Connect Your Meta Profiles Using Safe Connect for the in-app steps.
